As much as I liked LOTR (I read the books 3.5 times over before the movie came out) I would also pick the stegosaur over gollum any day. Seeing that dinosaurs filled the planet and had thousands of vibrant and diverse forms, while gollum (lets get real) is basically a self-conflicted anthropomorphic cave salamander that's a slave to some crummy ring.
The good thing was even though most people knew nothing about dinosaurs besides lame coloring books full of ovals and "Land before Time", I had some friends in school who drew tons of fantasy art (which I also dabbled in) but also thought that REAL dinosaurs were cool. They'd watch me bust out a Giraffatitan or a Tarbosaurus and and be like "mad skillz! Where did you learn THAT?" When they saw my protomammals, they asked if they could put Estemmenosuchus in one of their orcs and dwarves battle scenes, and wondered why there were no Magic Cards for gorgonopsians.

Shame. An ecologically feasible stegosaur reconstruction sounds loads more interesting than a trigantuan stone gollum.
Looks Awesome! I Love it!
If I could "like" this a million times, I would.
(And of course, this is when you are among people for whom the *very act of drawing* isn't just for kids.)
Haha I've seen this happen many times!

Agreed!
Apparently real life is harder to believe than fiction.
